When Porsche Centre South Lakes relocated from its long-standing home in Kendal to a new £5 million dealership near Junction 35 of the M6, iTek was trusted to support the complete transition of the dealership’s IT infrastructure.
Having supported the family-owned business for five years, the long-standing relationship and trust built between the two businesses meant the project did not go out to tender. iTek was the natural choice to support the relocation.
The relocation involved much more than moving IT equipment from one building to another. The new dealership required a complete technology infrastructure, with internet connectivity, IT security, Wi-Fi, hosted VoIP telephony, audio-visual systems, computers and all related IT equipment needing to be planned and installed as part of the wider construction project.
It also required close collaboration with architects, building contractors, and project managers to ensure the correct specifications were in place for physical cabling before installation work began.
The project began with a consultancy and planning phase, where Ben Mitchinson and the iTek team worked closely with Simon Parker and the wider project team to plan the technology infrastructure for the new dealership.
Alongside advising on internet connectivity, IT security, Wi-Fi, hosted VoIP telephony, audio-visual systems, computers and related IT equipment, iTek established strong working relationships with the architects, contractors and project managers involved in the build to ensure the technology requirements were considered from the outset.
Once construction was underway, iTek worked alongside the electricians to install approximately 15km of fibre and copper data cabling throughout the building. The team then installed the Wi-Fi and telephone systems, carried out all relevant testing, configured desktop computers and laptops, managed the audio-visual systems, and provided, configured and installed the security infrastructure, including firewalls and perimeter security.

The infrastructure relocation project took just over a year to complete and was delivered ahead of schedule despite taking place during the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout the project, iTek remained fully Covid-compliant.
