IT infrastructure modernisation

Age UK South Lakeland

Helping a local charity modernise its IT and support future growth

Age UK South Lakeland has been supporting older people across the region since 1978, providing advice, services and community support through a team of around 50 staff and more than 200 volunteers.

Since becoming the charity’s IT support partner in 2022, iTek has worked alongside Age UK South Lakeland to improve its technology, strengthen security and provide responsive support across the organisation. That partnership continues today and has included designing and delivering the complete IT infrastructure for the charity’s expansion, including the opening of new premises in Barrow-in-Furness.

The brief

Age UK South Lakeland was looking for an IT support partner that could provide responsive day-to-day support while helping modernise its technology and strengthen security across the organisation.

Just as importantly, the charity wanted technology that made it easier for staff to communicate, collaborate and continue delivering valuable services to older people across the community.

Our solution

Following a detailed consultation, iTek implemented a managed IT support solution tailored to the charity’s requirements.

The service included responsive helpdesk support and remote monitoring to keep systems running reliably and ensure support was always available when needed. Email, file storage and collaboration systems were migrated to the cloud, replacing ageing on-premise servers with a more secure and reliable environment.

Inter-site connectivity was strengthened through the implementation of a new firewall solution, while the remaining server hardware was relocated to the charity’s head office with additional security measures introduced to support Cyber Essentials Plus standards.

When the organisation opened a new office in Barrow-in-Furness, iTek designed the network infrastructure and Wi-Fi before installing the network, business phone systems, Wi-Fi, computers and security infrastructure, helping ensure the new offices were fully operational from day one.

“Through consistent clear communication, considered advice and quality service provision, we have delivered the support solution Age UK needed and been able to make comprehensive improvements to their IT systems. We are delighted to be enjoying such a strong partnership with Age UK and look forward to continuing to develop and improve their IT.” – Ben Mitchinson, Managing Director

The outcome

Age UK South Lakeland now benefits from a more reliable, secure and modern IT environment that helps staff communicate more effectively across the organisation while reducing downtime and improving day-to-day efficiency. The move to cloud services, strengthened security measures and ongoing managed support have provided a technology platform that continues to support the charity as its needs evolve.

Today, iTek continues to provide:

  • Managed IT support
  • Remote monitoring
  • Cloud services
  • Email and collaboration
  • Network and infrastructure management
  • Cyber security
  • Business connectivity
  • Ongoing strategic IT support

“iTek has benefitted our organisation by providing a charity-wide solution for all of our IT needs. This means that we operate much more efficiently, are able to communicate better across the organisation and with those people we hope to support through our charitable work. This is enhanced by the amazing customer support that we receive when we have any queries or issues, reducing any downtime and keeping us up and running.”
